Fusion Music has been around for a few decades now and many Punjabi Songs have been rendered using this new music movement. Bulleh Shah Bullhaa ! Keeh Jaana Mein Kaun ? Composer/Singer Rabbi Shergill
Rabbi Shergill, a talented Indian fusion music composer and singer uses his unique rendition (بول بانٹ اور ادائیگی) and brilliant fusion music composition to bring to life the 18th Century Classical Punjabi poet Bulleh Shah (1680–1757) song/kafi "Who Knows Who I am? Bulleh Shah poses the quintessential question "O Bullhaa! Who Am I?" Society labels the individual while the individual struggles to find his identity. It is an unending journey and Bulleh Shah takes an unusual philosophical route when in his song, he lists and tries to eliminate what he is not. Ironically, after eliminating these various social labels, the mystery of his identity deepens even more instead of being resolved !! Brilliant Classical Punjabi Poetry brought to life by the magic of Fusion Music and the strong vocals of Rabbi Shergill !!
Shah Husain Ni Sayyo AsaaN Nainaa Rizwan & Muazzam
Coke Studio Pakistan, presented on cable TV and satellite TV for the past many years now by Rohail Hyatt, is a vibrant reflection of the rich diversity of singers, music composers and music industry celebrities living in Pakistan. Coke Studio invited classical singers Rizwan and Muazzam, who belong to the famous, celebrated extended family of music maestros Ustaad Amanat Ali Khan and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, to present some of their music in a Fusion Music setting. Here they sing a Kafi of the rebel classical Punjabi poet, Shah Husain (1539-1599), Nee Sayyo Asee NainaaN day aakhay laggay. Shah Husain not only rejected the Mughal Emperor Akbar's rule in the Punjab (the pro-people rebel Dulla Bhatti being a friend of Shah Husain) but despite being a rigorously trained orthodox Islamic scholar, he also spent the last 15 years of his 60-year life span rebelling against the prevailing orthodox religious dogma of his time.

In this Kafi, Shah Husain proclaims his rebel call to the masses at large... "O Friends! I have followed my soul's yearning!!" and sums up the Kafi song by the line
"A true martyr is one who sacrifices his life defending his beloved!!"

This particular Kafi has been sung by Hamid Ali Bela, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as well as Wadali brothers. Interestingly, only Hamid Ali Bela and Wadali brothers adhere to singing the actual lyrics of this beautiful Kafi. In both Nusrat Fateh Ali's version and with Rizwan & Muazzam here, the dark mood of the Kafi is instead captured by the vibrant rendition of musical notes (raag daaree) by the talented singers.
