Ahmed Shamim, a brilliant modern Urdu poet, wrote ghazals, long poems and free verse short poems. Dareechah is proud to show case musical renditions of some of these beautiful creations by Ahmed Shamim.

Ahmed Shamim was never able to go back and visit his mother in Indian Occupied Kashmir once he left Sri Nagar in 1948 and is said to have written this poem in memory of his mother.
The poem was set to a beautiful musical composition by Arshad Mahmood and included with telling effect in Rahat Kazmi and Sahira Kazmi's adaptation of Ayn Rand's novel "The Fountainhead" as Pakistan Television's serialized play "Teesra Kinara" . The poem was sung with characteristic pathos by the acclaimed Pakistani singer Nayyara Noor and became an instant hit with Pakistani audiences.
The poem is written from the point of view of a young boy who is leaving his mother to go forth on life's big journey. It evokes childhood images with dexterity.
